In December 2016 all Members of the Roofing Association of NZ were alerted to a health and safety risk with Decramastic tiles manufactured prior to the mid 80’s, as most have been found to have asbestos present in the Black Mastic Glue that was used to apply the chip coat to the tiles. Unfortunately this issue has largely been ignored by many companies in the roofing industry, which is of great concern and while the industry was allocated a transitional period to have training and procedures put in place, this ran out on the 4th of April 2018. Kenray Roofing fully utilised the time allocated and took steps to implement a safe &; full proof system to protect our valued customers and staff alike. This involved the purchase of essential protective equipment as well as our staff becoming trained and qualified to work with asbestos. Our current process with Decramastic tile quotes is to:
– Quote for any work required, while we are on site to quote we will collect a small sample of your roof and store it safely on our premises.
– We then provide you with a quote, and if you are happy with it we would then send the sample off for to a laboratory for an asbestos test which incurs a fee to cover the cost of a sample analysis report.
– If the test results come back negative for asbestos, that's great, we can proceed with the quote we have already provided, however, it comes back positive for asbestos, we would then need to amend the quote to include the asbestos repair or removal work.
